If a Power of Attorney document is in effect, the Power of Attorney (actually known as “agent”) may possibly sign for transactions. A copy of the Power of Attorney must be submitted one time for coding on our records. However, with every requested-transaction form being submitted by a Power of Attorney agent, a Power of Attorney Certification form is required.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Power of Attorney paperwork is reviewed to determine if the Power of Attorney agent has the right to request that transaction. For example, most documents do not allow for Power of Attorney agents to change beneficiary designations.
Also, some Power of Attorney documents are not in effect until a future qualifying event, such as the person being deemed incapacitated.
For these reasons, it’s usually in the best interest of all parties if the member/owner signs the paperwork whenever possible, rather than the Power of Attorney agent.
